‘An Honest Mistake’: Whoopi Shrugs Off Being Confused for Oprah at the Oscars

Whoopi Goldberg was prominently featured at the Oscars last night when she and Tracy Morgan teamed up for a segment that poked fun at the white-washed nominee pool. Goldberg made some news earlier in the night though, when a beauty website covering the event saw her and thought she was Oprah Winfrey.

The ladies at The View called Goldberg in California to get her take on how Total Beauty posted a picture of her last night with a caption expressing surprise that Winfrey had tattoos:

The original tweet was taken down amid ridicule and Total Beauty offered apologies to both women for the confusion, but Goldberg seemed pleased just being compared to Winfrey.

“They could have used an orangutan and said ‘boy, he has a tattoo’ comparing me to Oprah,” Goldberg said. “That’s not a bad thing. It could have been a lot worse.”

Goldberg also declined Total Beauty’s offer to make a $10,000 donation to the charity of her choice, acknowledging that accidents sometimes happen.

People make mistakes all the time. We’ve done it on the show, so thank you for that, and come on, it was an honest mistake. We both look good, Oprah and I.

As for Winfrey’s reaction, Gayle King‘s Instagram picture of her suggests she doesn’t see the resemblance, but that she’s not terribly upset about it:
