House Speaker Paul Ryan went to bat for Donald Trump in an interview today, but NBC’s Andrea Mitchell confronted him on his awkward maneuvering this week.
Remember, earlier this week Ryan stuck by his endorsement of Trump even as he condemned his “textbook racism” attacks on a Hispanic judge.
And so, Mitchell said, “You have even said that what he said about Judge Curiel was the textbook definition of racism, how can you then say, but .. you know he’s ok to be president?
— MSNBC (@MSNBC) June 9, 2016
Ryan affirmed that there is “no justifying those comments and I was very clear about that” and that everyone should disavow them, but also “it’s really clear with me we have one of two choices, Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.”
He also said that behind closed doors, he found Trump’s temperament to be “very even-handed.”
