Andrew McCabe Asked if He Still Thinks Trump Could Be Russian Asset: ‘It’s Possible’
Former Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe says that he still thinks “it’s possible” that Donald Trump could be a Russian asset.
McCabe appeared on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 Tuesday night to promote his new book, and among the questions host Anderson Cooper asked McCabe was “Given all you know, given all you have seen, is President Trump fit to serve?”
McCabe was unwilling to say, telling Cooper “I don’t think that’s for me to determine whether or not he’s fit to serve,” and when asked again, McCabe said “I think that’s something that our political leaders and the country at large will have to decide.”
At the end of the interview, though, Cooper asked McCabe “Do you still believe the president could be a Russian asset?”
“I think it’s possible,” McCabe said, adding “I think that’s why we started our investigation. And I’m really anxious to see where Director Mueller concludes that.”
According to McCabe’s book, as well as other reporting, the FBI opened up a counterintelligence investigation following the firing of FBI Director James Comey to determine if Trump was knowingly or unwittingly working in Russia’s interests.
