Andrew McCarthy On Trump Tower Meeting: ‘I Don’t Think It’s Bad’ to Seek Dirt From Foreign Governments

Hey everyone, good news: The infamous meeting at Trump Tower with a bunch of Russian operatives wasn’t collusion with the Russians, it was just gross.

That is, according to The National Review‘s Andrew McCarthy. Speaking to Laura Ingraham Thursday, McCarthy said that the Trump Tower meeting wasn’t a good look for the incoming administration, but it wasn’t, y’know, illegal or anything.

“Look, I don’t think that it’s bad if campaigns are turning to foreign governments for dirt. It’s not collusion. It’s not something that’s impeachable. It’s icky. But that’s what this is,” he said.

Naturally, Ingraham was quick to say that Hillary Clinton‘s campaign looked to get dirt on President Donald Trump in the form of the Steele dossier.

Meanwhile, Wall Street Journal columnist and former SpyGate enthusiast Kim Strassel broke it down and said that the meeting may not be illegal, but lying about it under oath definitely is.

“If what Andy said is true, it kinda looks icky but I think the bigger point is is there a crime?” she explained. “It obviously is not a crime for Trump Jr. To meet with this Russian national and find out what she had to talk about. It’s also not a crime for Mr. Trump to have had prior knowledge of it either… the president. The question is, has he ever under oath said that he didn’t know? Was he in any situation where he might be viewed as having lied to federal law enforcement?”

CNN’s Legal Analyst Renato Mariotti lamented McCarthy’s claims:
