Ann Curry in Talks with CNN

Former Today show anchor Ann Curry made her long-expected departure from NBC News official today and now we are learning that she is in talks for a possible role at CNN.

Sources tell Mediaite that Curry has held “exploratory” meetings with Jeff Zucker, and that, while a deal is far from certain, the CNN president is eager to have her working at the network. One potential hitch could be her $12 million per year salary at NBC, a sum that would be difficult for CNN to match.

Curry joined NBC News back in 1990 and started filling in as an anchor on Today as early as 1994, working with Zucker, who produced the show during that period. She replaced Meredith Vieira as co-host in 2011 before being unceremoniously demoted in favor of Savannah Guthrie one year later.

Since then, Curry has appeared infrequently on the network, popping up for occasional high-prolile interviews like the one she conducted with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in September 2013.

In their press release about Curry’s departure, NBC News stated that the reporter is “developing a media startup, to include a reporting and content venture seeded by NBCUniversal that will focus on incubating and producing content of national and global importance with a multi-platform distribution approach.”
