Another Democratic senator weighed in today on CNN after a colleague said Gary Cohn pretended there was a bad connection to end a call with President Trump.
Senator Tom Carper claimed that this happened during a call about tax reform, and Senator Chris Coons said hours later, “I remember it a little differently.”
“It was a long call,” he told CNN’s Jim Sciutto, “it was clear that there was some eagerness in the room for us to resume our conversation. We heard a lot from the President. I do remember Senator Carper making that suggestion. I don’t think Gary Cohn abruptly hung up on the President, but it was a challenge to transition him off the call, and I think Gary Cohn handled it appropriately.”
The White House denied the earlier claim made by Carper today:
White House spokesperson tells @CNN: "Senator Carper’s claim is completely false. Gary Cohn left the room and continued to speak with the President privately for several minutes before they concluded the call." https://t.co/7MFxTwn43Z
