Ari Fleischer Scolds Trump For ‘Horseface’ Tweet: ‘You Just Don’t Do That When You’re the President’
Fox News contributor Ari Fleischer says President Donald Trump ruined what could’ve been a good news cycle for himself.
The former White House press secretary was on America’s Newsroom to talk about the news that a Federal judge, on Monday, tossed out Stormy Daniels‘ defamation lawsuit against the president. Fleischer noted that the development is a “big win” for Trump, but when he and Sandra Smith looked at Trump’s gloating tweet in which he called Daniels “Horseface,” Fleischer said it was an example of the president being “his own worst enemy.”
“In the middle of a victory, he takes it down a few notches by engaging in that kind of unnecessary rhetoric. He doesn’t need to call anybody horseface. You just don’t do that when you’re the president. It reminds me in some ways about the tweet he put out of Mika Brzezinski. The president can counterpunch so hard he often hits himself. And that is something he has been actually pretty disciplined at for the last 8 to 10, 12 months and here he is again returning to that mistake and overtweet. I wish he wouldn’t engage like that. It diminishes what is a proper victory. Instead of hitting a home run he has now hit a double.”
Fleischer and Smith went on to note that the president’s attack comes amid a tough few days for Trump rivals Michael Avenatti and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). Avenatti has been criticized for his representation of Julie Swetnick during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation saga, given Swetnick backtracked from some of her claims in an MSNBC interview. And Warren is drawing blowback over her attempts to prove her Native American ancestry.
