Arianna Huffington Defends HuffPost’s Trump Coverage: He’s a ‘Clear and Present Danger’
Arianna Huffington appeared on CNN’s Reliable Sources this morning, and Brian Stelter wasted no time in confronting her over how The Huffington Post has covered Donald Trump.
You’ll recall that early on, HuffPost moved Trump coverage to the entertainment section, before going back on it months later and adding editor’s notes to every Trump post calling him a racist misogynist birther bully.
Stelter asked if it was a “foolhardy” move to cover him as entertainment. Huffington said “not at all” and compared Trump to “Kim Jong Un, he’s both a buffoon and he’s dangerous.”
She argued that once he pushed for a Muslim ban, he was a “clear and present danger” and by not challenging him on any of this, the media is complicit in allowing his “absurdities” to become mainstreamed––especially on his birtherism.
Stelter pointed out, then, they probably shouldn’t have filed him under entertainment in the first place. Huffington said she wanted to make clear “we cannot cover him in a conventional way.”
She even went so far as to say it would be a “dereliction of duty” for any news organization to not take a stand on Trump.
