As 2016 Approaches, CNN’s New Day Is Doing Better Than You May Know
2015 has been a big year for New Day, CNN’s weekday early morning program featuring Chris Cuomo, Alisyn Camerota and Michaela Pereira.
From a famously combative exchange between Camerota and Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson, to multiple newsmaking on-camera and telephone interviews with Donald Trump, the 6 to 9 a.m. ET program has made significant gains — making 2015 its most successful year since premiering on June 17, 2013.
Nielsen reports show CNN has garnered its highest yearly performance since 2011 in those hours within the coveted P25-54 demographic. Specifically, New Day is up +10% from its 2014 P25-54 numbers, and +14% in P2+ — its highest increase since 2009. According to CNN, both Fox News and MSNBC morning shows are on track to have their lowest years in the 25-54 demographic in more than a decade.
New Day still ranks a distant second to Fox & Friends but the real story may be how CNN has surpassed MSNBC’s Morning Joe for the second year in a row. The Joe Scarborough-led program has thus far posted a ratings loss in P25-54 (-8%) for 2015.
As the year comes to an end, expect more battling ratings statistics and releases from all the cable news nets.
