Barbara Walters, Whoopi Call Out ABC for Excluding The View from Oscar Coverage

Whoopi Goldberg got to present at the Oscars (ruby slippers and all), but she was still bothered by The View‘s exclusion from Oscar coverage, and so she and Barbara Walters called out ABC on the air yesterday for overlooking them while the other daytime shows got to attend the big event. Goldberg said, “I hate to ring my own bell, but what the hell?” before going off on the very network they were broadcasting on for excluding them from Oscar coverage.

She touted The View as “the only show that has an Oscar winner on the panel” (Goldberg herself won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in the 1990 movie Ghost) and said “it was a crying shame that we weren’t there.” Walters also got in on the pile-on to add a complaint of her own about ABC.

“Now that I’m not going to be here forever, I can gripe too. We don’t get promos the way others––we’re sort of the stepchildren.”

Walters will be retiring this summer, so now is definitely the best time to just stop caring.
