‘Because You Don’t Stop Talking, Chuck’: Priebus Battles Todd Over ‘Extreme Vetting’ Executive Order
A week after Meet the Press host Chuck Todd tussled with White House counselor Kellyanne Conway over “alternative facts,” he got into another contentious exchange with a senior member of the Trump Administration.
Speaking to White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, Todd immediately pressed the ex-RNC chair on the level of chaos that was seen yesterday over the implementation of President Donald Trump’s ‘extreme vetting’ executive order, wondering if it would have been best if they gave a grace period to allow agencies to understand the rules.
Priebus claimed that you don’t want a grace period because bad people would then use it to move up their travel dates, stating that it is best to “rip off the band-aid” and move forward.
Todd further pressed the senior official about the situation with green card holders from the seven countries that are currently prohibited in the order. After Priebus provided Todd with conflicting answers about whether there were restrictions or hurdles for those holding green cards, the MTP host began grilling him, telling Priebus he had “twice confused me so I’m just trying to understand the clarity.”
“It’s because you don’t stop talking, Chuck,” Preibus exclaimed. “I love you, but let me answer the question.”
The two would go back and forth for a few more minutes over green cards and the executive order. They also went at it over Trump not placing countries like Saudi Arabia on the list, which Trump has business ties in.
