Mark this down as the week Ben Carson finally began to attack Donald Trump. Carson, who is tied with Trump in Iowa and leading him in a head-to-head matchup nationally, outlined what he sees as the biggest difference between the two men at a a campaign rally in Anaheim, California on Wednesday.
“I realize where my successes come from,” Carson said, answering a question from the crowd, “and I don’t in any way deny my faith in God.”
In recent weeks, Trump refused to recite his favorite Bible verse and the church to which he has said he frequents claimed he is “not an active member.”
Carson’s attack on Trump’s faith comes one day after he went after the GOP frontrunner’s immigration policy for the first time.
“It sounds really cool, you know, ‘Let’s just round them all up and send them back,'” Carson said at another California campaign stop on Tuesday. “People who say that have no idea what that would entail in terms of our legal system, the costs — forget about it. Plus, where you gonna send them? It’s a double whammy.”
