The drama that played out this week over Ted Cruz‘s campaign falsely telling Iowa voters that Ben Carson was dropping out of the race was an early topic of Saturday night’s Republican presidential debate on ABC. When asked about the controversy, Carson initially elected to let the whole thing drift, but then Cruz insisted on trying to blame CNN again, incorrectly blaming his campaign’s actions on CNN reporters Jake Tapper and Dana Bash by name.
That was too much even for Carson, who stepped in to correct the record:
“In fact the timeline indicates that initial tweet was followed by another one within one minute that clarified that I was not dropping out, so, what happened to that one, it is unclear. But the bottom line is, we can see what happened, everybody can see what happened and you can make your own judgment.”
The moral here is, when someone turns the other cheek, maybe quit while you’re ahead.
