Independent Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was asked, in an interview with Chuck Todd on Meet the Press Sunday morning, to react to the report from the Office of the Inspector General on email practices at the State Department, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s use of a personal email server. Sanders held close to the line he’s used all along about the “damn emails,” but conceded that if and when the FBI makes its report before the election, that Donald Trump and the Republicans would “seize on” it.
Sanders also said that while he’s not focused on the issue, the process should “play out,” and that people could draw their own conclusions from last week’s report:
The report in question did chide Hillary Clinton for breaking rules regarding the surrender of documents upon departing the State Department, but also said she’d significantly mitigated that violation with her eventual disclosures, and laid most of the blame for the department’s difficulties at the feet of longstanding institutional dysfunction.
