Senator Bernie Sanders said on Meet the Press this morning that he believes the immigration policies of President Trump‘s White House are based on anti-Muslim ideology.
The controversial travel ban is, allegedly, not a Muslim ban. Comments made by the president and Rudy Giuliani (among others) have been pointed to in an argument that the ban was the White House’s way of legally getting something done on the issue.
The White House has repeatedly argued that the list of nations impacted by the ban was taken from the Obama administration.
Sanders told Chuck Todd he believes the U.S. already has “very strong” vetting mechanisms, but he’s open to hearing ways they could be made stronger.
Now, that being said, he called the administration’s immigration policy “racist” and even said it’s “based on anti-Muslim ideology.”
