Bernie Sanders Willing to Work with Trump, But Says He’ll Fight ‘Demagoguery’
Bernie Sanders sat down for a lengthy interview on CNN late this afternoon and made it clear he is willing to work with Donald Trump on an agenda to help working-class people, but also that he will stand in the way if Trump engages in demagoguery and bigotry.
Wolf Blitzer started out by asking if he thinks he could have won against Trump. Sanders responded, “What good does it do now? The election is over.”
Sanders expressed hope that Trump will actually look out for the best interests of the middle class and actually follow through in tackling the system he has decried as corrupt. He said that “people are angry, they are right to be angry,” but that must be channeled in a positive way.
He said he’s willing to work with a Trump administration on the issues where they have common ground, but he will stand up against the “discriminatory and inflammatory” things he’s said and the “un-American” policies he has proposed.
Sanders also addressed the protesters who have been marching across the country since yesterday, saying that people should be getting more politically involved.
