Beto O’Rourke Officially Kicks Off Campaign in El Paso: ‘This Is Our Moment of Truth’

Former Congressman Beto O’Rourke (D- TX) officially kicked off his 2020 campaign with a rally in El Paso this afternoon.

He talked about his unsuccessful Senate race against Ted Cruz and talked up political change in Texas, before saying, “That’s why I am so glad to be here with you today in my hometown, in my home state, to announce that I’m running to serve you as the next President of the United States of America.”

“Our children and your children and the generations that follow them are depending on us now at this moment,” he said. “This is our moment of truth… and we cannot be found wanting.”

O’Rourke decried President Donald Trump for using “fear and division based on the differences between us,” and said at one point that the country should end “these love affairs with dictators.”
