Betsy DeVos Chastises Trump For Foul Mouth at Rally: We Have Responsibility to Be Examples For Kids
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos had an opportunity to break from President Donald Trump, if only slightly, and she sorta-kinda took it.
Today’s Savannah Guthrie asked DeVos if she would “wash someone’s mouth out with soap” for using “a dirty word” like the one Trump used to describe Meet the Press‘ Chuck Todd; namely, a “sleepy-eyed son-of-a-bitch.”
“I wonder, as the education secretary who’s in charge of what our kids learn, what do you think of that kind of language?” Guthrie said of the words the president used to describe “one of [her] colleagues.”
“I would probably use different language myself,” DeVos said. “I think we all have an opportunity and a responsibility to be examples to our kids.”
“Which includes the president?” Guthrie pressed.
“That would include the president as well,” DeVos replied.
DeVos is making the media rounds this weekend into this morning to varying degrees of success. In this same interview with Guthrie, she got slammed over the Trump administration’s school safety bill, which backed off a promise to raise the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21 years old. She also did a cringeworthy 60 Minutes interview in which she failed to answer basic questions about the health of the school system.
