Vice President Joe Biden defended Black Lives Matter today in reaction to Rudy Giuliani denouncing the movement as “inherently racist.”
On CNN this afternoon, Jake Tapper asked Biden for his reaction to what a lot of conservatives say about Black Lives Matter. Biden acknowledged that there are the occasional lone protesters who shout about killing cops, but said those people don’t speak for the movement as a whole.
He said Black Lives Matter is very concerned about how black people “are the focus of the police as opposed to other communities.”
The vice president acknowledged that some BLM leaders don’t want to engage in dialogue, but said it’s unfair to make the movement out to be a singular group like the NAACP as opposed to “an umbrella of all kinds of people who feel like there is discrimination that exists.”
