Bossert: ‘Clearly Wrong’ to Say Trump Was Trying to ‘Hide’ Arpaio Pardon During Hurricane

White House Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert appeared on Face the Nation this morning to discuss Hurricane Harvey, but Major Garrett also brought up the Joe Arpaio pardon.

Bossert said on ABC’s This Week that there’s been “disproportionate coverage” of the pardon, given the hurricane, and some people have been suggesting the timing of the pardon––as Texas braced for Harvey to hit––was deliberate.

One of those people was Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer:

Bossert told Garrett that Trump “weighed the totality of the circumstances and the sheriff’s history of service” in his decision, saying “I don’t think that took up more than a minute of his time on Friday night.”

When Garrett brought up Schumer’s tweet saying the timing was about trying to “hide” it, Bossert responded, “No, well, he’s clearly wrong.”
