BREAKING: Paul Ryan Says Trump Won’t Sign Continuing Resolution to Fund the Government

House Speaker Paul Ryan said on Thursday that President Donald Trump refused to sign the continuing resolution passed in the Senate to fund the government through the new year.

The CR — passed by Mitch McConnell on Tuesday — provided short-term funding for the government but did not fund the president’s border wall.

After a backlash from immigration hawks in Trump’s base — as well as House Republicans who support building the wall — the president signaled Thursday that he would not sign a bill that did not provide funding for at least some border security.

“The President informed us that he will not sign the bill that came up from the Senate last evening because of his legitimate concerns for border security,” Ryan told reporters on the White House lawn. “The president said he will not sign this bill, so we’re going to go back and work on adding border security to this, also keeping the government open.”

“We want to keep the government open, but we also want to see an agreement that protects the border,” he added.
