Bret Baier: If Obama Prosecutes NSA Leaker Edward Snowden, He ‘Opens The Door To Libertarian’ Movement

Fox News Channel’s Special Report anchor Bret Baier joined the hosts of Fox & Friends on Monday to discuss the revelations surrounding Edward Snowden, a private security contractor who came out over the weekend as the person who leaked classified National Security Agency protocols to The Guardian. Baier said that prosecuting Snowden risks alienating bipartisan swaths of the American electorate and opening the door to a more libertarian political movement in the United States.

Brian Kilmeade observed that he found the debate surrounding the leaker interesting in that both partisan liberals and conservatives find themselves in agreement on the inappropriateness of the NSA’s tactics of keeping records on the telephonic and electronic communications of nearly all Americans.

“I do think this opens the door to a libertarian kind of point of view that is very attractive to a lot of folks,” Baier said. “

He said that President Barack Obama’s White House “is in a tough spot” politically, because if they prosecute Snowden – as it appears they will – they risk upsetting vast portions of the electorate who is “touted as a hero.”
