On Friday, the White House announced that it would delay the process of verifying individual income levels for those seeking taxpayer subsidies for health insurance as mandated in the Affordable Care Act. On the heels of the White House’s decision to push back the mandate for employers to cover health insurance, Fox News Channel’s Bret Baier told the hosts of Fox & Friends on Monday that the prospect of “taxpayer dollars going out the window” with this latest delay could be politically damaging for the White House.
The delay in the verification of income levels means that the states will have to administer new insurance marketplaces, taking those who say they qualify for subsidization on their word.
Baier told the Fox & Friends hosts that the government confirmed that they would not check whether benefit seekers qualify for subsidization until 2015.
“This is a big, big deal,” Baier said. “It will become a big story in the initial implementation of Obamacare because you can see, you know, taxpayer dollars going out the window.”
