Hey, remember when President Donald Trump said he has the “absolute right” to pardon himself? Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) does, and he wanted to know Brett Kavanaugh‘s thoughts.
“President Trump claims he has an absolute right to pardon himself. Does he?” The Senator asked the Supreme Court nominated judge
Kavanaugh wouldn’t answer directly, saying its a hypothetical question and self-pardons are “something I have never analyzed.”
Leahy pressed on by asking if Trump has the authority to pardon people “in exchange for a promise from that person that they wouldn’t testify against him.”
Again, Kavanaugh didn’t offer a clear yes or no.
This non-answer comes after Kavanaugh refused to say whether a president is legally obligated to respond to a subpoena.
