Brian’s Family Guy Future Just Got a Lot More Promising…

Last week, the internet erupted with rage after Fox’s Family Guy killed off one of its most central characters: Brian Griffin, the family dog with literary aspirations and a drinking problem. Now, according to a report in Entertainment Weekly, Brian will return to the show on December 15th.

The writing was on the wall for Brian’s return, with the official plot description for the upcoming Christmas episode reading, “Stewie devises a master plan to get the one and only thing he wants for Christmas.” In addition, the voice cast list reads: “Seth MacFarlane as Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, Brian Griffin.” As EW’s Dan Snierson points out, Maya Rudolph is slated to play a love interest of Brian’s in an episode next fall.

The Change.org petition organized by fans to revive the character has racked up nearly 130,000 signatures in less than two weeks, but it seems unlikely that that’s actually what caused the show to #BringBackBrian, as the accompanying Twitter hashtag implored. MacFarlane has said that each episode takes up to 10 months to produce, which is why, unlike South Park, the show does not comment on current events.

Whatever Family Guy is planning for Brian’s future, it’s been in the work for quite a while. Needless to say, the show should expect a ratings bump on December 15th.
