Brit Hume Blasts Media Coverage of Trump-Russia: ‘Worst Journalistic Debacle of My Lifetime’
Fox News political analyst Brit Hume blasted media coverage of Robert Mueller‘s investigation, which he said should be seen as an embarrassment for those who oversold the political devastation it would cause for President Donald Trump.
When Hume appeared on America’s Newsroom, he lamented the broader “debacle” caused by the idea that the president colluded with Russia during the 2016 election. As he called for an investigation into the Justice Department and the FBI, Hume said the press will need to do some major soul-searching for how they hyped up Mueller’s report, now that it apparently won’t cause the end of Trump’s presidency.
“We in this business need to look back and say, how in the world did several major news organizations, networks, newspapers and so on devote so much time to what turned out to be utterly baseless speculation about the most serious crime you could imagine?” Hume asked. “It is the worst journalistic debacle of my lifetime.”
Fox anchor Sandra Smith asked Hume if he has seen any apologies on this from the media or from Democrats — Hume said he has not. While he noted that some liberal journalists have acknowledged the “bad reporting” that came out throughout the probe, Hume said he has not seen any broader reflection on “the catalog of baseless speculation and wild accusation.”
