British Actress Reportedly Rises To Top Of The List To Play Hillary Clinton In Rodham

Last week, rumors were swirling that four major American actresses–Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Chastain, Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson–were all in the running to portray a young Hillary Clinton in director James Ponsoldt‘s upcoming bio-pic Rodham. But now, The Hollywood Reporter has sources saying that a new name has risen to the top of the list: British star Carey Mulligan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, Mulligan plans to have a sit-down meeting with Ponsoldt to finalize the details soon. The film is said to take place in 1974, when Hillary Rodham was 27 years old and working as a young lawyer involved with President Richard Nixon‘s impeachment.

Mulligan, who is currently 28, is just coming off the box office success of The Great Gatsby and was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar in 2010 for her role in An Education.
