Fox News continued to ride the wave of successful debate ratings with Monday night’s GOP event from South Carolina. Moderated by South Carolina native Bret Baier, the debate — the first held since the field whittled down to five major candidates — pulled in 5.5 million total viewers, with 1.6 million coming from the 25-to-54 year-old demographic.
The event was the highest-rated Monday debate so far in this primary cycle, as the previous two Monday debates had averaged a combined 3.39 million total viewers, with 1.025 in the demo. It also improved on the numbers of the previous debate — seen on NBC Jan. 8 — by over 1.3 million viewers.
Fox News’ ratings are especially impressive considering the debate was held on a holiday that capped off a three-day weekend for most people. Plus, Monday has been an especially poor night for debate ratings, yielding the lowest average total viewer pull of any night:
Average Debate Viewers By Day Of The Week:
Saturday: 6.46 million
Thursday: 5.28 million
Tuesday: 4.55 million
Wednesday: 4.37 million
Sunday: 4.15 million
Monday: 4.08 million
The next debate — and the final before the South Carolina primary — is scheduled for Thursday night at 8 p.m. (Eastern) on CNN, and will be moderated by John King.
