Cable operators, who pay for the channels they put in their lineups, are very picky about what they like, and what they’ll pay for it. According to Broadcasting and Cable, those cable execs like Fox News. A lot. “Aside from sports channels, cable operators see Fox News Channel as the most valuable network that they carry,” reports B&C‘s Jon Lafayette.
According to a survey by Beta Research cited in the magazine, operators pay top dollar for ESPN, at $1.16 per cable subscriber. ESPN2 rates 71 cents. After sports, the top draw is Fox News:
Fox News had a perceived value of 58 cents per subscriber per month, barely topping Disney Channel, USA Network and Discovery Channel. It also topped CNN, which was valued at 48 cents per sub by the operators surveyed.
