California Chrome Owner Apologizes for Angry, ‘Emotional’ Rant
Steve Coburn, the owner of California Chrome who went on a bit of an angry rant after his horse did not claim the Triple Crown over the weekend, apologized on GMA this morning for his “very emotional” rant against Tonalist, the horse that ultimately won the Triple Crown.
After California Chrome lost the race, Coburn complained that Tonalist did not race in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes like his horse did, calling it unfair and “the coward’s way out.” On GMA this morning, he offered up an unqualified mea culpa, witting beside his wife, and teared up as he apologized.
Coburn apologized to the winners, the people who supported California Chrome, “all the horse racing in the world,” his wife, and “the world and America” for his “emotional” rant borne of anger.
