Cantor: Ingraham Saying I Should Be Traded to Taliban ‘Cheapens the Debate’

On This Week with George Stephanopoulos, ABC News White House Correspondent Jon Karl played for outgoing House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) a clip of fellow ABC News-er Laura Ingraham calling Cantor a “phony” in the wake of his loss, and asked for Cantor’s response to her criticism, which included the soundbite that he should have been traded to the Taliban.

“I’m not into blaming anybody,” Cantor replied. “But I will say that the suggestion that I should have been traded to the Taliban for Sergeant Bergdahl really is not a serious contribution to any public policy debate. Frankly, I don’t think that it reflects on the people who self-identify as tea partiers. I think they reject that kind of nation. And frankly it cheapens the debate.”
