Cardinal Dolan: Trump Called Clinton a ‘Tough and Talented Woman’ During Al Smith Dinner Chat

dolanCardinal Timothy Dolan says that Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were unusually chummy last night before they started roasting each other at the Al Smith Dinner.

The two political rivals appeared together last night, only a day after challenging each other in their last, highly-explosive presidential debate. Dolan was sitting in between Clinton and Trump, and media observers were very curious when they were seen having a friendly-looking conversation together.

Dolan talked about the dinner with NBC’s Today, where he was asked about how Clinton and Trump got edgy with each other again as they launched their zingers. Eventually, Dolan discussed Clinton and Trump’s chat, and said there were “touching moments” when they actually tried to be courteous and say nice things to each other.

“When we were going in, I said ‘can we pray together’ as we were waiting to be announced,” Dolan said. “After the little prayer, Mr. Trump turned to Secretary Clinton and said, ‘you know, you are one tough and talented woman…this has been a good experience, this whole campaign, as tough as it’s been.'”

Dolan said that Clinton returned the compliment and said “whatever happens, we need to work together afterwards.”
