The Casey Anthony trial may be a circus, but you simply can’t raise your middle finger at the folks on stage. A young man in Orlando learned that lesson the hard way today, when he decided to flip off one of the prosecutors in the ultra-high-profile murder case. Bad move. He was plucked from his seat in the courtroom, and as cameras carried it live, forced to explain himself to the judge. It didn’t go well. The judge dressed down Matt Bartlett, a restaurant server, reminding him that the taxpayers of Florida had invested a lot of money in the trial, and that he’d basically risked all of that with his stunt.
Found guilty of “direct criminal contempt,” he was sentenced to six days in the Orange County Jail, and a fine of 400 dollars (plus 223 dollars in court costs). All things considered, a rather pricey decision to flip the proverbial bird.
