Last night on the CBS Evening News, Katie Couric asked Bob Schieffer whether he thinks the “Birther” movement is now officially over with the release of the President’s birth certificate. Schieffer predicted that it was, but was very worried about a new movement that he sees Donald Trump trying to start: one unfortunately based on the President’s race.
Responding to Trump’s request for Obama to now also release his college transcripts to prove how he got into Harvard, Schieffer let loose:
“I want to go on to what Donald Trump said after he said ‘this is out’ and everything. He said, ‘we need to look at his grades and see if he was a good enough student to get into Harvard Law School.’ That’s just code for saying he got into law school because he’s black. This is an ugly strain of racism that’s running through this whole thing. We can hope that that kinda comes to an end too.”
However, is it racist for Trump to now ask for Obama’s grades or is it possible that it’s just Trump eager to extend his publicity by finding anything new to request from Obama?
