Charlie Rangel: Unrealistic to Believe Obama’s Race Not a Factor for His Opponents
Appearing on MSNBC on Thursday, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) was asked about Attorney General Eric Holder‘s comments before a National Action Network audience in which he implied that both he and President Barack Obama are facing unprecedented abuse from Republicans and conservatives. Asked if Holder had played the “race card,” Rangel said that it was “not realistic” to believe that race is not a factor motivating Holder or Obama’s opponents.
“If there’s anyone that believes that the color of the president is not an issue with those people who adamantly oppose them, they’re not realistic,” Rangel asserted.
Rangel said that the tea party is actively forcing “good Republicans” from cooperating with the president, and there is a racial motive behind that opppsition.
“If you notice, whenever this group gets together against Obama, the Confederate flag is there with them,” Rangel insisted.
