Charlie Sheen Loses Bid For Sole Custody Of Children, Dan Abrams Explains Why On GMA
A judge in Los Angeles has rejected Charlie Sheen’s battle for sole custody of the twin sons he had with ex-wife Brooke Mueller. Sheen pointed to Mueller’s apparent drug relapse as cause but the judge did not revoke Mueller’s custody. On Good Morning America today, Mediaite founder and ABC legal analyst Dan Abrams explained why.
Abrams explained that it was Judge Hank Goldberg’s job to gather everyone into the hearing Tuesday, hear all the sides of the story, and look at them all through the “prism of the children.” He said that Sheen’s behavior (bashing Mueller in public, talking about taking the kids on tour with him) certainly wouldn’t have helped Sheen’s case in the judge’s eyes.
George Stephanopoulos then pointed out that many are probably wondering why the judge didn’t just take the children away from both parents and leave them with another family member.
“It’s a big deal to take away kids from both biological parents. One of the reasons, I think, that Brooke is being able to keep the kids is because there are nannies in place, there are relatives there, and others. And that’s part of the evaluation that the judge does, to say this is a secure environment in totality. To take children away from both biological parents is a very draconian measure.”
