While this week brought with it a rare moment of warmth at a New Jersey Governor Chris Christie town hall meeting, it also brought a press conference where the governor called a reporter an “idiot” for asking an off-topic question about politics rather than the intended subject to be discussed: a broken water pipe that cut off the water supply of a large part of Central Jersey.
The insulting question, according to CNN, was about the legislature, and came after a warning not to ask about anything but the water problem:
Reporters were told the governor would only answer questions about a major problem at a water treatment plant, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Yet one reporter proceeded to ask an unrelated question involving the state legislature, as seen in video of the press conference from Monmouth County.
Christie, cutting him off, said: “Did I say on topic? Are you stupid? On topic, on topic. Next question.”
As the reported tried to follow up, the Republican governor again interjected and ended the press conference.
