Chris Cuomo Grills Tyler Clementi Roommate Dharun Ravi: Did You Frighten Him?
In a preview clip of his exclusive 20/20 interview, Chris Cuomo spoke with Dharun Ravi, the former Rutgers student convicted of invasion of privacy, hindering apprehension and witness tampering after spying on roommate Tyler Clementi, who ultimately jumped off the George Washington Bridge to his death. Ravi strongly denied that he bullied Clementi.
“Did you want to intimidate him? Frighten him?” Cuomo pressed.
“No,” Ravi said.
“Did you record him having sex?” Cuomo continued.
“No,” he repeated.
“Did you out Tyler Clemeni?”
“No, not at all,” Ravi maintained. “I know I didn’t, because he brought a guy over and walked him in, he went into the room, closed it, the guy comes out an hour, there’s people in the lounge, everyone sees it happening, so I figured, he doesn’t care. He’s okay with it.”
Ravi did admit to Cuomo he has regrets for his actions.
“I was 18, I was a dumb kid, not thinking about anything,” Ravi acknowledged, but denied that Clementi had been “fragile.”
“Just because he’s gay doesn’t mean he’s automatically fragile and can’t deal with anything,” Ravi said.
Cuomo told Robin Roberts, Ravi was almost certain to be deported back to India for his crime.
The full interview airs tonight on ABC’s 20/20 at 10PM EST.
