CNN’s Chris Cuomo interviewed Michael Caputo on New Day this morning, and grilled the former Trump campaign adviser over a bombshell new book roiling the White House.
Cuomo first pressed Caputo on whether President Donald Trump is “spending way too much time on the wrong things” — i.e. using Twitter to crush his foes, big and small — pointing out that only two of Trump’s last ten tweets concern “matters of state.”
“I think a lot of people, especially those opposing Donald Trump, are uncomfortable with his use of the unfiltered Twitter feed,” Caputo said, noting that he himself even had concerns about use of the social media platform when he joined the campaign. “But I became comfortable with the fact that the president is giving America his unfiltered view on things.”
Caputo then made a very-online argument in defense of Trump’s extensive tweeting:
“Gone are the days of the beta Republican presidency,” he declared. “And I think I’m among one of the people who feel that a robust and even muscular presidency, and someone who speaks their mind is someone I’m comfortable with in the White House.”
Cuomo later moved on to Michael Wolff’s new book on Trump World, which rocked Washington D.C. last week thanks to its explosive contents and stunning quotes from White House officials.
“This book is trash,” Caputo contended, after claiming Wolff is “lying through his teeth.”
“I’m not here to defend Michael Wolff,” Cuomo replied. “But you guys let him in Michael. You guys opened the door, you said come on in. You gave him tons of access, including the president who spoke to him about the book. So shame on you, not Michael Wolff. You can’t punish the guy for being tricky enough to get in there. So who says he’s lying?”
