MSNBC’s Chris Hayes tonight remarked upon just how many Republicans are coming out to advise President Trump not to terminate DACA.
Several Republicans, most notably Paul Ryan, have been saying Trump shouldn’t do that and leave this to Congress.
Hayes asked former Republican Congressman David Jolly about the more cynical take on this:
“Donald Trump keeps making the mistake of calling the bluff of Republicans on what they say they wanted before they got power. So when they could vote to repeal Obamacare and it had no implications, they all voted to repeal Obamacare, but then they got scared when it would become law. And now it’s DACA, and everyone voted to repeal DACA, and now that he says, ‘Well, you know what? You guys want it, I’m actually gonna repeal DACA,’ everyone’s freaking out. Why is that not the correct interpretation?”
Jolly said, “You’re right to call out that hypocrisy. No question at all.”
