Chris Matthews: Gillespie ‘Pretended to Be a Trumpster’ and Couldn’t Pull It Off

Chris Matthews tonight told Chris Hayes that Ed Gillespie had the problem of trying to be a “Trumpster” instead of being part of the swamp.

Gillespie lost to Democrat Ralph Northam in a remarkably close race and, while President Trump endorsed him and told people to vote for him, he tweeted tonight that Gillespie didn’t “embrace me or what I stand for.”

Matthews made this observation:

“They [the Democrats] beat the hell out of this guy who pretended to be a Trumpster––Ed Gillespie is a Washington lobbyist, he’s knee-deep… in the swamp, he’s part of the problem Trump ran against.”
