Chris Matthews thinks Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is seriously gearing up for a presidential campaign and predicts she will be a force to be reckoned with in Iowa. Strangely though, Matthews also claims “we created her here,” apparently thinking an old appearance by Bachmann on his show was responsible for launching her into the national spotlight, and may even result in her going all the way to be the Republican nominee in 2012.
Matthews doesn’t see how boring male candidates like Mitt Romney or Tim Pawlenty can compete with someone exciting and attractive like Bachmann. Furthermore, in Matthews opinion, only Bachmann could appeal to people “in the yahoo wing of the Republican party” who would find the fact that she is still “learning things” like geography to be an admirable character trait. However, Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter says Bachmann comes out of a clown car and suggests that to her, politics is just a game.
In a strange twist, it’s Matthews who comes to Bachmann’s defense and urges Alter not to dismiss the possibility of her winning it all.
