Chris Matthews To Ed Schultz: ‘You Could Be Head Of The AFL-CIO’
MSNBC’s Ed Schultz has been passionately following the Wisconsin recall election, consistently taking on Gov. Scott Walker‘s opposition to public bargaining rights. Schultz’s coverage has emphasized the effect of Walker’s policies on unions — and on Tuesday night, fellow MSNBC host Chris Matthews highlighted Schultz’s advocacy.
In a Hardball segment, Schultz, who is covering the recall live in Wisconsin, reiterated his support for unions and collective bargaining. Toward the end of the segment, Matthews heaped praise on Schultz (acknowledging that Schultz fares better with ratings). He told Schultz, “You may not like me saying this Ed buddy, but I gotta tell you, if you weren’t doing this, and you’re doing a fabulous job … I gotta tell you something: you could be head of the AFL-CIO, and they’d be better off for it.”
Matthews added, “I know I’m right. Or something even bigger, Mr. Schultz.”
