Chris Wallace: Flynn FBI Interview Was Not Entrapment, He Lied

Fox News’ Chris Wallace joined Shepard Smith this afternoon to react to Robert Mueller firing back at Michael Flynn‘s claims about the circumstances of his January 2017 FBI interview.

Mueller writes that the circumstances of the interview are not in any way mitigating and the fact is that he lied, and someone in his position should’ve known and understood that.

Wallace noted that this wasn’t just a “one-off” because Flynn was lying for weeks before the interview, saying “there’s certainly a pattern here.”

He also objected to the Wall Street Journal editorial board categorizing this whole thing as “entrapment”:

“To come in and say ‘what did you talk to Sergey Kislyak about,’ and then you lie about it, that isn’t entrapment. That’s a lie.”

Smith read from Mueller saying that someone in Flynn’s position “does not need to be warned it is a crime to lie to federal agents to know the importance of telling him the truth.” He noted that after all this, we still don’t know why Flynn lied.

Wallace noted that Flynn must have calculated it wasn’t in Trump’s interest for them to put out that Flynn spoke to Kislyak after President Barack Obama imposed sanctions on Russia.

And as Wallace noted yesterday, Trump’s defense of Flynn is pretty stunning when you remember he fired Flynn for lying in the first place.
