Over the past 30 years, Christopher Guest has written and/or directed some of the greatest mockumentaries of all time: This Is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration. Today, Netflix announced that it has acquired the latest entry in this ongoing examination of human behavior: Mascots.
The film, set to premiere sometime next year on the streaming service, is yet to be cast, but you can expect to see familiar faces like Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara and Fred Willard pop up in the new project. Netflix released this short summary of the movie’s plot:
“Welcome to all the drama, intrigue and occasional excitement of the 8th World Mascot Association Championships, where a group of ‘unusual’ men and women, with big heads and furry suits, compete to win the prestigious Gold Fluffy Award and be crowned best mascot in the world.”

Most recently, Guest created the series Family Tree for HBO, starring Chris O’Dowd as an Irishman who travels to California to research his ancestors. That show was canceled after just one season.
