Chuck Todd confronted Donald Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort on Meet the Press this morning over Trump’s strange speech talking mostly about his new golf course after Brexit.
The timing of Trump’s visit to Scotland couldn’t have been more perfect, yet rather than focusing on the historic UK vote to split from the UK, Trump mostly talked about his new golf course. This baffled a lot of media analysts who expected Trump to take more advantage of the opportunity.
Todd told Manafort it was a “head-scratching event” and questioned the tone-deafness. Manafort said the real tone-deafness came from the Clinton campaign with a “phony ad” attacking Trump on that very speech.
Todd asked why that kind of speech was “appropriate”––especially when he’s “promoting a golf course in the middle of his campaign.”
Manafort said that Trump’s business success is a major reason why people love him.
