Earlier this morning, when few details were known about the horrific Orlando shooting, Chuck Todd took a moment on Meet the Press to swipe at elected officials using their perch to draw conclusions before the facts came in.
There isn’t much still known about the shooting, except for some reports confirming the shooter’s Islamic radicalization and apparently loyalty to ISIS. But without going into much detail this morning, Todd issued a blanket criticism of elected officials who decide to draw conclusions about motivations and the like.
He said he was “stunned” by “the number of elected officials in some high elected office just already drawing conclusions, and that’s dangerous.”
Why? Because, Todd explained, “Many people may assume they know something more than perhaps that they do.” And if they don’t, well…
He concluded that when people are so “insecure,” ginning up unverified commentary isn’t helpful.
