It’s been yet another week of scandal for President Donald Trump and his White House, with aide Rob Porter’s sudden resignation amid spousal abuse allegations, and reality television star — and former staffer — Omarosa Manigault appearing on Celebrity Big Brother to trash the presidency.
Nobody is more aware of the administration’s propensity toward chaos than MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd. He took to MTP Daily this evening to deliver a stunning rebuke of Trump and what this country has become under his watch.
“I’m not gonna go full Howard Beale here, but it’s close,” he said, referring to an infamous scene from the film Network, in which a news anchor screams that he is not going to take it anymore. “It feels like we’ve reached a level of crazy in this White House and it’s difficult to take it anymore.”
Todd went on to dismiss the Trump White House as having a “level of egomania few have ever seen in Washington.”
“It’s like we’re living inside of a parody from three years ago,” he said. “Consider, ‘What would happen if Donald Trump became president? Omarosa would probably work in the WestWwing and then she’d leave to go on Big Brother to dish about administration secrets, hahaha.’ Oh, wait. That actually happened.”
The anchor launched into a sort of “greatest-hits” from the first year of the Trump administration, beginning with a series of Trump-enabled conspiracy theories and ending with Porter’s resignation.
“Folks, we’re not even surprised anymore,” he said. “All of this is the legacy of the country’s first reality TV president.”
