On Friday’s Daily Rundown, host Chuck Todd took a look at the dichotomy being created between Republican VP hopefuls Marco Rubio and Rob Portman.
Both men spoke at the ongoing Faith & Freedom Coalition Conference, giving speeches that, while nearly the same in content, were strikingly different in tone. “Well, as you can see,” said Todd, “there’s the charismatic contrast, if you will, between Portman and Rubio.”
“We’re just struck by the contrast between Rubio and between Portman,” he added, paraphrasing the Daily Caller’s characterization by describing the two as “charismatic” and “boring,” respectively.
NBC’s senior political editor Mark Murray agreed that Rubio is “the one with sizzle,” but cautioned that “the question is whether he’s vetted or not. On the other hand, Rob Portman’s a little bit boring, but he’s also the safe pick and as the Romney campaign looks at the monthly job numbers… maybe boring is the right pick for them.”
