Chuck Todd this afternoon talked with Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC about the Republican party’s very public fissure.
He said the actual consequences of Sen. Jeff Flake’s actions yesterday won’t be fully known right away, because while it might be a temporary victory for President Donald Trump and Steve Bannon, there’s the possibility a Democrat could end up winning Flake’s seat.
Mitchell brought up the DNC’s response to Flake and how even though a lot of anti-Trump people praised Flake yesterday, the DNC still slammed him for voting with Trump most of the time.
Todd said they may be just taking the view that the GOP infighting is more about style than substance:
“If Donald Trump were more polite, would Jeff Flake still be running and would Bob Corker still be running even if he was still a protectionist, even if he was still an isolationist? And I think the answer is yes, I think they’d both be running.”
